Makoto Tachibana | Makoto Kikuchi | 038
[It's a bit stressful, being at their first swim meet in a long while, but Makoto isn't honestly that nervous; he's more concerned with his friends than him, of course, and with Rei so nervous, it's much easier to focus on that.
Haru's race is first, though. It'll set the tone for the whole meet, and Makoto know it--but more importantly, he's finally racing Rin again, and it's clear Rin is being serious. Haru doesn't care about his time or his placement, but...he cares about Rin, and all Rin cares about it winning now.
The outcome of this race will determine a lot, and Makoto knows it.
But he's looking utterly shocked as the end becomes clear--Haru lost, and while the swimmers move to get out of the pool, Makoto steps back a few steps despite himself. It's just such a surprise, and he knows that what Rin told Haru was no good, even if he wasn't close enough to hear the actual words--
But going to try to talk to either of them did no good at all, and he's looking rather defeated as he walks back into the stands. He won't be swimming for a bit yet, but--he knows of someone who came to see them swim, and maybe she'll have some advice, or something similar.
That's close enough to him admitting that really, he just wants to sit by her for a little bit, and hopefully that'll be enough to set him on the right path to dealing with all of the rest of this.]
