Personality:

Barbara Morse started out as a studious, mild-mannered biologist. Absolutely intelligent, yes: with a PH.D in Biology, she knows her stuff. Of course, working on the super soldier serum means she wasn't just any biologist. But she still didn't really come into her own until she became a secret agent. Because, whatever this says about her, Bobbi's true calling is to be a super spy and a superhero.

Because Bobbi is a sassy, self-sustained badass. She isn't the sort to take anything lying down, and she'll fight for what she believes should be. This shins through time and again: she fights almost alone against SHIELD when she discovered corruption in the ranks, almost at the cost of her own life. And then, in the end, when Nick Fury offered her an even higher position in SHIELD due to her work, she refuses; she's been there, done that, and she's ready to move on, rather than rejoin the organization that had almost killed her.

This is because Bobbi is stubborn like nothing else. Really, once she gets a thought in her head, she refuses to let it go. This, combined with her very dynamic personality, leads to some very rash decisions (see: marrying Clint a few days after getting to know him). She refuses to back down or compromise her own agency in any way--it may be a bad idea, but it's her bad idea. All of the big decisions she makes are made in spite of opposition: her quitting the Avengers, her divorcing Clint, and so on and so forth. But once she has gotten the idea in her head, she'll carry through with it, regardless of opposition.

This isn't to say that she can't follow orders, because she absolutely can--from people she respects. Hence why she's an absolute team player when Captain America is on the scene...and with the West Coast Avengers, back when Clint had had her respect and trust. When there isn't someone who commands her respect around, she has no problems with going off on her own, though, or being a leader herself. She's not natural leadership material, but she's learned from the best, and now she's leader of the World Counterterrorism Agency.

Bobbi really does have a dynamic personality. She's simultaneously a no-nonsense and rash person. She solves problems with her fists first whenever possible, and she goes and beats up bad guys to make herself feel better when she's down. At the same time, she scorns the tropes of jumping to conclusions and rash miscommunication. In one issue, Clint goes deaf due to a last minute, dangerous plan to get them both out alive. Thus, he doesn't hear Bobbi ask him out on a date--and he walks away without responding to her. This is the perfect set-up for an abundance of miscommunication issues--but then on the next page we learn that Bobbi chased after him to clarify what was happening, nipping the problem in the bud. She's honestly too straight-forward and no-nonsense to let these sorts of things happen. If something can be resolved by bluntly facing the issue, then face the issue she will.

Along with all of this, she refuses to take anyone's bullshit--she warns Dominic Fortune that if he condescends to her, she'll punch him in the face. He proceeds to do so, and she follows through on that promise. She has pet names for people she's close to, but the reverse is only allowed from people she trusts and gives that right to. She'll flirt on occasion, but when she's on the job, she'll shut it down. And no one is allowed to objectify her.

A large part of this is, of course, because Bobbi has Issues with a capital 'i'. She was kidnapped in another time, violated in both mind and body, all because a man through she should be his. Unsurprisingly, when he was falling to his death after trying to kill her, she refused to save him. And her myriad of issues with pet names, with being touched, with being treated fragilely, with being objectified all stem from this happening in her life. She saw the worst of it, and she's never going to let that happen again.

But she was an Avenger, and letting people die as an Avenger isn't kosher, and Mockingbird has a lot of pent-up frustration about this. It ruined her marriage, her way of life, and all she got out of the deal were a lot of nightmares. She swings from healthy to not, mentally, as would anyone who went through that sort of trauma (on top of the skrull trauma, of course, which she got the worst of). This also has made her a great deal more close-lipped; she'd rather keep her feelings to herself these days, thanks.

And then she died. Or, well, almost. She took a chestful of bullets and the only reason she's still alive today is thanks to the super soldier serum. She knows it, too. If there's something Bobbi now treasures, it's her life. There are definite echoes of the Iron Man "I shouldn't be alive unless it's for a reason" to Bobbi's story. She treasures that she's still alive, and is determined to live her life to the fullest. So she focuses on work--where she can do good in the world, keep herself busy (and her mind off of worse things) and make the most of her life.

Ultimately, Bobbi is a self-assured, self-sustained, sassy hero. She's been through buckets of trauma, and hasn't totally come out unscathed, but for the most part, she's trying to do her best to make it in her own way, on her own merits, and it absolutely unwilling to back down when she thinks she's in the right.

Items on your character at canon point:
- Her Uniform, which she will be wearing
- One pair of goggles ; night-vision, infrared sensors, and they serve as glasses, as Bobbi is nearsighted
- Bo-staff ; made of metal, it splits into two pieces and can extend, sometimes knives come out of the ends--basically, it's a Gadget
- two pistols
- communication device ; connects to the World Counterterrorism Agency, which of course won't work
- pair of typical glasses for nearsightedness

Abilities, Strengths and Weaknesses:

strengths:
  • super-soldier; Working on the super soldier serum and getting a bit of it herself, Mockingbird's tough. She won't die from something that would kill a normal human, even if injuries can easily still be a thing. She's a bit stronger than normal humans, and her reflexes are quite a bit faster. She also states that her senses are significantly sharper as well--she's got better eyesight, hearing, smell, etc etc.

  • martial arts; Mockingbird began her hero journey by learning all sorts of martial arts and fighting styles, and it shows. When pitted against Hawkeye, the supervillains watching and Hawkeye himself note that without weapons, she's the one most likely to prevail; Bobbi's body is her weapon, and her bo-staff is just an extension of that highly trained body.

  • super spy/SHIELD agent; She's trained in just about everything you'd expect from a superspy; she's got the hacking, the sneaking, the disguises, the subterfuge, the gadgets. It's all part and parcel of being a spy. While she's not a SHIELD agent any longer, she absorbed what they taught like a sponge and won't ever forget it.

  • ph.d in biology; While she tends to resort to brute force first, surprisingly, Bobbi's a scholar as well! She's got the smarts to make it in a scientific based field and she's got the biology know-how to prove it. While she doesn't have much in the way of a bedside manner, she does know how to keep someone alive--even if she's not really a doctor at all in that way.

  • grey moral code; Mockingbird left the Avengers because she let someone die--that's a pretty big deal in the comicsverse. She takes that grey moral code a bit further when it comes down to it, embracing it and not letting rules define her. It makes her a more dangerous opponent, at times.

weaknesses:
  • traumatized; If you want to see someone traumatized as all hell, look no further. Mockingbird's past, her tussle with the skrulls, her identity issues, her struggles with Clint--all of that make for a backdrop of someone who has nightmares every night. She tries to not let it affect her performance, but sometimes it really, really does. For instance, it only takes a reminder of the Slate family for her to immediately deflate, all fight going out of her. Other times, she punches first and asks questions later--even if it's unwise.

  • puts herself first; Of the selflessly selfish variety, Bobbi will not hesitate to do what has to be done. She tells her parents that she's dead so that they'll be out of the way, safe, but it's also so she can continue to be a spy. That sort of selfishness is something she does all the time. It doesn't make her very many friends.

  • guilt; As is quickly becoming apparent, Bobbi has a lot of emotional issues. But her guilt is definitely one of them, compounded by the way Clint reacted to how she let her skeevy kidnapper die. She's still carrying that guilt, even ages later. She's also got a lot of repressed trauma from killing skrull who looked like Clint, but y'know, part and parcel of being a superhero.

  • just a human being; On the physical side of things, Bobbi is just a human being--and she knows it too. She can be broken and injured and killed, if it comes to that. She has no powers, no magic, and no superhuman skills. She's the first to say that she knows she's average compared to the likes of Iron Man, Captain America and the Hulk. It won't stop her from trying to fight battles that she probably shouldn't. After all, the world can't forget the kickassery of Barbara Morse (those battles do not end well for her).

  • grey moral code; HERE WE ARE AGAIN--but despite her apparent moral code that's less than the Avengers, she still resists killing people and struggles with the big questions. She's likely to freeze up at important moments if they involve things that aren't in her moral code. Honestly, her struggles with her morality are a huge liability for her.

This was the last thing Bobbi Morse had expected when she had woken up. After all, the last thing she remembered was celebrating their final victory—or, well, Strange’s victory, but they could all share in it, because the Dark Avengers had been a pain in the ass thank you very much.

Instead, she was in the woods.

Bobbi was in the woods because she had ditched the town as soon as possible; the rustic nature of it had instantly put her on guard, even though it was clearly not the 1800’s. The Phantom Rider hadn’t come from her. She was fine. She was safe. She had resolved that problem already.

Then again, that was the problem with ghosts. They never were really fully taken care of.

So Bobbi had left the buildings before her panicked breathing could stop her from thinking clearly. Once in the woods, she could at least lean against a tree and try to calm down and catch her breath. Somehow. Everything would be fine. She would be fine.

With her head under control (though her heart still beat quickly, a dratted reminder of how scared she really was, no matter what she told herself), Bobbi straightened and set out to get to exploring. That was the quickest way to find her way home, after all. And if she had gone back in time again, she’d have to find a way home all on her own.

She couldn’t trust Clint to come for her, and she wasn’t a damsel in distress. She’d find a way out herself—

The roar caught her off-guard, but she reacted with inhuman reflexes, flipping neatly over the wild boar, large and vicious. It gave chase, and Bobbi cursed, ducking and weaving, doing her best to escape its persistent attacks.

And as she attempted to avoid death by impalation, Bobbi thought with a sense of dark humor, At least now she wasn’t thinking about ghosts from her past.
