[It's really not uncommon at all for him to be tossed into a jail cell. It's part of the job hazard--of being a thief, that is.

If they don't try to cut off his hand, he'll be fine. If they do, he'll make a quick and hasty exit.

Simple.

So he's brushing himself off after having been rudely shoved on in there, but he recognizes pretty quickly that he's not alone in this cell.

Still, he doesn't speak until he's brushed off every speck of imaginary dust off, and then he crosses his arms behind his head and comments lazily without even looking--]

I wasn't expecting to have such nice company when I was thrown in here.

Thieves aren't usually looked kindly on, no matter where you're from.

[He just flicks his gaze over towards her, curious but keeping it quiet.]

I have to say this sort of open-mindedness is very odd!

Ba'ul tends to get the wrong sort gathered to him-- so you could say I understand that much.

... It's really a person's loss, if they're quick to judge anyone, in my opinion.

Sure, sure. All Ba'ul's fault. Poor guy.

Well, I won't disagree with you. We might actually get along, if you keep up this sort of mentality!

Oh? I can't say I'd mind befriending you.

Oh, good. I can say with completely honest, which I don't do often, that I wouldn't mind befriending you either.

How's that? Friends?

I like the sound of that-- so why not? Friends.

But this works just fine for me, honestly, not only because you got us both out of jail.

[ but she offers her hand, anyway. It's nostalgic. ]

[He's not sure if he really was expecting her to--but she is, and so he reaches out and clasps her hand in a quick but firm handshake, grinning.]

Sure. I don't make friends with any old person who gets caught in a cell with me. I have standards!

And you're an interesting person who got caught in a cell with me, so you make the cut easily.

I'd be a little worried if my cellmate thought I was boring, so I certainly feel better now!

[ says the lady who's bffs with a dragon. ]

But for now... do you have somewhere you'd like to be taken?

[yeah this is why he gets the sense that she's mocking him--but ah well, what can he do. He just grins and shrugs.]

You know that castle just a bit north of here?

Anywhere around there would be excellent.

I think that's manageable enough.

[ and whether he's heard or Judith managed to communicate the location to him, Ba'ul is smoothly changing his course and soaring in that direction. ]

Can you communicate with him in ways other than words, then?

Yes-- through our minds, so to speak.

...Huh. That's some talent right there. Even the Wyvern Lords back home couldn't communicate with their scaly friends that way.

Wyvern Lords? I can't say I've ever met one.

Well, they ride Wyverns. Gigantic dragon-like creatures.

It seems to me you'd get along.

We might.

But please remember that Ba'ul isn't a steed. He's my family.

You'd be hard-pressed to find a Wyvern Lord that believes that their wyvern is anything but family, honestly. But yes, I suppose he must be.

Hmm... then we may have something in common, after all.

[ though Ba'ul's much more than a dragon, or a wyvern. ]

I think you'd get along, yes.

[But he shrugs, grinning cheekily.]

Don't let them seduce you away from me, though, all right? Remember who was your first.

It takes quite a bit to seduce me, Matthew.

And it'd be hard to pull me away when I can't say I'm yours in the first place.

Hmm...fair point.

You don't seem the type to be possessed, and I'm not a possessive type anyway.

Anyone who tries to own another has something important to learn, I'd say.

But odd, I thought thieves tended to hoard what they found.

Shiny things are different from people, you know. They have their own choices to make, and such things.
