[It's really not uncommon at all for him to be tossed into a jail cell. It's part of the job hazard--of being a thief, that is.

If they don't try to cut off his hand, he'll be fine. If they do, he'll make a quick and hasty exit.

Simple.

So he's brushing himself off after having been rudely shoved on in there, but he recognizes pretty quickly that he's not alone in this cell.

Still, he doesn't speak until he's brushed off every speck of imaginary dust off, and then he crosses his arms behind his head and comments lazily without even looking--]

I wasn't expecting to have such nice company when I was thrown in here.

I punched someone who didn't like it.

[yeah, he's laughing at that.]

I can see that from you without much difficulty, yeah. Somehow.

[brbwalking]

Only newly met and already you've gotten to know me so well! I must be losing my mysterious air faster than I thought.

[redcloakedthief]

I like to think I'm a fast study.

[welp.]

But don't worry, you're still rather mysterious.

That's one small relief for the day.

[ but she's smiling. ] And what did you do, or should I guess?

[redcloakedthief]

[he chuckles at that, shaking his head.]

I'm not sure I'd want to hear what you would come up with.

I have sticky fingers, let's just say.

[brbwalking]

I hear that's a common symptom among prisoners. That's a shame.

[redcloakedthief]

That's me.

[he just smiles and shrugs.]

Terribly common, and all.

[brbwalking]

I wouldn't say the crime makes you common.

[redcloakedthief]

Oh?

Common crime doesn't make for a petty thief?

[brbwalking]

It would be incredibly close-minded of me to call someone petty just for that.

[redcloakedthief]

[...and he pauses, and then shrugs, throwing his hands behind the back of his head as he stretches.]

Then you would be one of the first, that's for sure. Interesting, though.

I'd have to call it a pity if you've only met someone like that now.

[ it's her turn to stretch, perfectly at ease where she is. ]

Thieves aren't usually looked kindly on, no matter where you're from.

[He just flicks his gaze over towards her, curious but keeping it quiet.]

I have to say this sort of open-mindedness is very odd!

[brbwalking]

Ba'ul tends to get the wrong sort gathered to him-- so you could say I understand that much.

... It's really a person's loss, if they're quick to judge anyone, in my opinion.

[redcloakedthief]

Sure, sure. All Ba'ul's fault. Poor guy.

[snerk.]

Well, I won't disagree with you. We might actually get along, if you keep up this sort of mentality!

[brbwalking]

Oh? I can't say I'd mind befriending you.

[redcloakedthief]

Oh, good. I can say with completely honest, which I don't do often, that I wouldn't mind befriending you either.

How's that? Friends?

[brbwalking]

I like the sound of that-- so why not? Friends.

[ what a great friendship. ]

[two cons, being friends. What is this world coming to.]

I feel like I should shake your hand or something now. Make it official--

But this works just fine for me, honestly, not only because you got us both out of jail.

[brbwalking]

There are other reasons, then?

[ but she offers her hand, anyway. It's nostalgic. ]

[He's not sure if he really was expecting her to--but she is, and so he reaches out and clasps her hand in a quick but firm handshake, grinning.]

Sure. I don't make friends with any old person who gets caught in a cell with me. I have standards!

And you're an interesting person who got caught in a cell with me, so you make the cut easily.

[brbwalking]

I'd be a little worried if my cellmate thought I was boring, so I certainly feel better now!

[ says the lady who's bffs with a dragon. ]

But for now... do you have somewhere you'd like to be taken?

[redcloakedthief]

[yeah this is why he gets the sense that she's mocking him--but ah well, what can he do. He just grins and shrugs.]

You know that castle just a bit north of here?

Anywhere around there would be excellent.

[brbwalking]

I think that's manageable enough.

[ and whether he's heard or Judith managed to communicate the location to him, Ba'ul is smoothly changing his course and soaring in that direction. ]
